The Runaway Sleigh Christmas Special- A REVIEW

I loved the book! A real feel good, the girl wins and there is a happy ever after! Thank You Victoria!!

The Runaway Sleigh Christmas Special
By Victoria Bastedo

Reading is different for everyone. Everyone expects different things from a good book. Personally I want a book that makes me not want to stop reading it till it is done. I want to be kept guessing how it will end but not given the answer till the book is done. I want it to make me laugh and I want it to make me cry. To me a book that makes me laugh lifts my spirits and my mood and makes me believe I can do it! A good cry means the author touched me with real feelings. It means the characters where real inside and not just ink spilled on paper.
Author Victoria Bastedo covered all those items on my must for a good book. It had intrigue and love and family issues, secrets and lots of laughter and tears, yes there were tears. A young girl gets a job that gets her into all kinds of trouble, including physical injuries and well as wounded pride. But it brings her love something she didn’t count on. But she had to complete a mission for her mom and for herself. She had no information but a ring and a picture, not much for such an important question. But Ollie was just the girl to do it. And do it she does!

Other books by Victoria Bastedo
Dear Miklos
Green-Eyed Pursuit
Roots Entwine
Sunrise Meets the Star
Black Poodle Over Seven Hills

IT IS ABOUT DOING THE WORK! WRITING ITS GOOD FOR THE BRAIN AND MORE!

Writing is such a good exercise for a brain, for a heart and for a soul.  You can say anything you want on paper and then you can throw it all away.  That can soothe a heart.  The thinking of it stimulates your brain along with the writing of it helps the brain and dexterity.   You can write on paper and tell a special someone something nice to brighten up their day.   They may want to keep it and reread it.  Maybe little notes tucked under the windshield wiper of their car to find on their way to work or long love letters.  That will put a little joy into both your souls.   You can express any feelings about things and express things that should be said but can’t and feelings that need to be released and not hurt anyone and free yourself of those feelings.   You may need several letters, who knows it may take a book!    Isn’t that” a   novel idea”!!!  Loll!! Loll!!!   Ok I am sorry just had to try that line our once, lollop!!

I fell away from that part of writing which is so important for me.    I focused on the fun part of it and such and came across too many road blocks.  I forgot you have to do the work to finish the job.  You most certainly should not give up the fun part which can use ones imagination beyond our wildest dreams.  That is good for the brain, the heart and the soul.  But you have to put in the work and balance it out.  Although as in most things good in life there is usually a little more work that makes the fun part so good.

Well it is off to work for me.  Hopefully and can get down to the business of writing that I love.

THE POEM

Good Morning! Well I am falling behind, but I am working on it, lol. This is a poem I wrote for NaNoWriMo a few years back. It is part of a book called “The Poetry Savors” that I wrote that turned out to be over 50,000 word story in almost all rhyming poem form, lol, I didn’t do it on purpose, lol!  I am still editing it and hope to try to get it published.  This has been posted before by itself although the version has change just a touch. Enjoy your day!  Don’t forget to go check out the A-z challenge for poetry and other bloggers who are celebrating Poetry month. There are so many good writers out there.

Ok so it is now nite time and this is the sixth time I have tried to post this.  I have been having computer problems and well I am frustrated.  Hopefully this time it will work.

  THE POEM

They say the poem is a dying art,

sad to me and not to smart.

The positive thought soothes the soul

and brightens the heart.

So why would we throw it away?

Instead consider this,

stop and take a moment for bliss.

Read a poem as food for thought.

Read how someone else feels as you do or do not.

Or go places you have wanted to see,

Be any person you want to be.

They make you laugh, and love ,

or make you cry.

And most important make you ask why.

Your body will relax, your mind will calm.

You will expand your horizons with exquisite words.

This is a good thing to keep around.

There are plenty of poems to be found.

If you don’t see one you like,

then how about the one you could write?

It could be a thought or a rhyme,

It could take place anytime.

It could be something about you,

or just three lines of Haiku.

Bring back the poetry I proclaim!

To take it away would be insane.

Poetry fills the mind.

This is a good thing you will find.

Take the time to share a thought or two,

and maybe bring a smile to me or you.

Facebook Friends

I remember having pen pals to write to and share

We never really knew each other and didn’t care

It was so much fun to get a letter in the mail

From a friend far away making you smile without fail

Now we have Facebook and it is lots of fun

But sometimes so many write too much and come undone

But used in the right way so many nice people to meet

Just be careful of the ones who tell lies trying to cheat

It is great to learn about others and see they are like us

Maybe we will learn to get along without all the fuss

So I thank all my Facebook friends new and old

I appreciate you all and I want it to be told

I have learned so much about you and even me

I have learned many things I do and don’t want to be!

THANK  YOU!

WIND

This is a reblog from a few years ago!   I remember sitting in the hot tub when I came up with this one, watching the wind move the clouds all around the sky, dancing and flying free!

Wind

Looking up at the cloudy sky

I saw an angry dragon floating by

The wind came along and blew him away

I really didn’t like him anyway

As the breeze started to whirl the clouds around

All of a sudden there was a clown

He danced in the sky with a flower in his hair

Singing along without a care

But the wind had other ideas today

And picked up and blew the clown away

The trees danced as the wind blows

Knowing that whatever the wind brings…away it also goes

I watched and waited for something new

But the wind was done and it just blew.

POETRY AND MORE POETRY

Good Morning! This little ditty is for April 5th!

The mist surrounds the mountain, sweeps thru the valley so green.

It is like it is washing all this morning to make everything clean.

The sun is up there peeking through,

waiting for the mist to finish all it needs to do.

It’s supposed to be a warm one today.

Everyone wants to go out and play.

The mist starts its descent down to the ground,

just so the sunshine can come out and be found.

Everything now all clean and ready to show,

giving all it touched a shinny glow.

The clouds are white but barely there.

For today is for sunshine it is only fair!

This poem has been published In Sno Valley Writes 1st Anniversary Zine called Views, Voices & Verses 2009.

This is for April 6th!

VALLEY LIFE

Green trees

MT SI

Running rivers

Going by

Snow capped mountains

In the rear

Elk running wild

With no fear

Trees tall all around

Everything green on the ground

Wild flower in the fields

Everything growing

Giving yield

Beautiful life calm and serene,

In this valley peacefully clean.

When a Writer Hits the Wall (A REBLOG)

THIS IS A REBLOG FROM Dec 10, 2010.

This “writer’s block” has hit me this year again.  I have been tackling other areas in my life that needed tending too so that has helped keep me busy at least and not get totally off the path by stewing over the fact that I haven’t been writing much but I have used this time to get ready to do a lot more writing.

I am not going to make a New Year’s Resolution to start writing on a more regular basis because that is not how writing works.  For me at least I know it comes to me on its time and terms.  I just tweak it.  I will always try to write but I can’t promise it will come out.

I do want to start the New Year out right by THANKING YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!  THANK YOU TO ALL MY FOLLOWERS AND GUESTS THAT STOP BY!  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

When a Writer Hits the Wall

My name is wildwriter. I have that name because my writing is still in wild raw form. I am learning to tame it and put it into the graceful art of a beautiful book as it belongs. Sure the ideas are good most of the time and stories and poems spill out easily. Imagination is not usually a problem.

I think books are beautiful. They are gifts to all of our senses. They can take you anywhere in the world or universe or beyond. You can be anything and everything you ever dreamed of just by getting into the character of a good book. Every sense is stimulated. Your imagination peaked beyond everyday usage. You learn, you feel, you understand, you cry, laugh or get angry.   So many feelings can be brought out.   It is a great therapy.   Books are one of man’s greatest creations.

I am a writer. I have to keep reminding myself of this because sometimes a writer comes to a wall and it seems of  late I keep running into it. But my head is not so hard that a few rams into the wall and I realize I should climb over it before I knock myself out.

So here I sit in front of my window looking at a beautiful mountain, which should bring motivation, trying to climb the wall.   Where it will take me and will I be able to climb it,  right now I am not sure except I HAVE TO CLIMB THE WALL, of that there is no doubt.

I have no story in mind, only lots of thoughts and ideas, no motivation for any certain one at this time but I have this burning desire to sit and type and type and type. Of course I would hope at the end of all that typing would be a completely edited and finished fantastic book. And that is my dilemma. How do you go from A to Z without the perfect prompt, that perfect story to reel everyone in? And then how do you tell it just right so that people will want to finish it. I picture it. I see my manuscript being read and an agent calling me telling me they are going to get it published. I see myself signing the paper work after a million and one questions. I question everything. I hear the sigh of relief that this meeting is over even though they are anxious to do it. They know my book is good.

Yes I picture it all. There is the celebration of the book sales, the excitement of seeing my name in print knowing that people all over the world will now read my book and are taken where ever I send them. And then again the mad dash at the keyboard to put out the next one. My hair has grown long and wild. My eyes are bloodshot with big bags under them from lack of sleep. The vision of me is surreal as I watch myself. I am on a roll my eyes are glazed over from the words coming from what is left of my mind.

The sheets of typed paper are stacked high all over. The letters flow like water from a stream coming over the rocks down off a snow covered mountain. The letter to the agents typed, the synopsis, the first 3 chapters perfected, yes it plays like a good movie over and over in my head. BUT, and that is the problem, and the only word that comes to mind at this moment.

I am a writer and I have the story to tell, I just can’t seem to find it right at the moment. I know this is a common condition with writers. Many “hit the wall” at times. What do they do? I have heard lots of ideas but not one that works at the moment. I see myself hunched over the computer from exhaustion. There are four words on the page after what seems like hours of typing. They are: “I AM A WRITER!”

AND THE RACE IS ON!

Today we start Nano Wrimo. It is a contest (you basically compete with yourself) where you start a brand new story on November 1st and write at least 50,000 words in 30 days. No editing! Just writing!

As of right now I have 418 words towards at least 1700 I need for today! I consider this good since I have had lots of things I had to do and because I still do not have an idea of what I want to write this time. I have done this before but usually something comes to me at least a few days before the deadline. The good thing is I have some characters so I am introducing them, I guess you can say and even though I am not sure how or why or what about them at some point in time I will have to show them so I am starting there.

My playlist for this Nano to start out is below. Some are for inspiration, some are for fun! I have lots of great music and I will be posting as I change. Maybe you will find some good new songs from it.

AC/DC’s
“LET’S GET IT UP” (And that is for my word count!)
B.B. KING
“WE’RE GOING TO MAKE IT”
BILLY D AND THE HOODOO’S
“SOMETHING’S WRONG”
“SAVE MY LIFE”
BOB SEGER & THE SILVER BULLET BAND
“LET IT ROCK’
EARTH, WIND, & FIRE
“SHINING STAR”
JOE BONAMASSA
“JOCKEY FULL OF BOURBON”
JOSS STONE
“FREE ME”
LITTLE FEAT
“FEATS DON’T FAIL ME NOW”
SEAL
“BRING IT ON”
TOM PETTY
“RUNNING DOWN A DREAM”

So for all you fellow NaNo Wrimo-ers out there I wish you the best of luck and May you words flow like wine from a bottle! May the ideas fly around your head freely and flow down to the paper easily. May you hit 50,000 before you know it and may it turn out to be a dang good story! AND THE RACE IS ON!

To my followers of this blog I will try to post something often and keep you informed about NaNo or a poem or story who knows, BUT I will try to be more consistent. Any ideas or thoughts on stories are welcomed, lol!

A POEM FOR MOTHERS

A POEM FOR MOTHERS

(THIS IS ALSO FOR ALL STEP MOMS AND ADOPTED MOMS OR CARETAKER OF A CHILD. A MOM IS SOMEONE DEVOTED TO GIVING LOVING CARE OF A CHILD OR CHILDREN)

Mothers aren’t perfect and they sure aren’t given a manual on how to be. Some women become mothers because they want to and some don’t it just happens. Having a baby doesn’t make you a mother. Technically yes it does in the sense you have given birth but not in the sense of loving, teaching, and raising the children to be good people and most of all to know that they are wonderful and so very much loved.

BEING A MOTHER

A moment, your world changes, your life is dramatically different from this moment on.

A beautiful baby is put in your arms, you are no longer the child you are the mom.

That one moment transforms your world.

It doesn’t matter if it is a boy or girl.

For most of us that moment is sheer joy.

It is tempting to see it as a toy.

But now that you hold baby & daddy makes three.

The responsibility is mainly on thee.

Never again will life be the same.

To think it is better is no shame.

As a mommy there is so much joy and love.

This baby is something you will always be thinking of.

With this child you will grow so much.

This gift has such a special touch.

With that love may come some pain

It is all worth it that into your world this baby came.

It touches your life like no other.

There is nothing better than being a mother.

GOOD MORNING! GOOD MORNING! THE GARDEN DOES CALL!

This month is one of my favorite months because I love to work in the garden. I end up stiff as a board usually but I will dig in the dirt till I just can’t anymore.

Today is Sunny and going to be warm. It will be a good day to work in the garden. I just wish I could figure a way to outsmart the weeds. They are always ahead of me. I clean one area out and move to another, when I go back to check the first section the weeds are coming up again. What do you do? If only everything would grow so well.

Gardening is therapeutic. It is life coming up again and again and its results are beautiful. I hope you all enjoy my little jingle and have a wonderful day!

Good Morning, Good Morning, I say to you all.

Up at 5 am seems to be my call.

My garden waits for the work to get done.

It is waiting for me, I am the one.

I pick up the weeds that get in the way.

The flowers most definitely have something to say.

They are starting to bloom and want all the attention,

They are very spoiled did I mention?

The trees all need trimming so new buds will grow.

Sometimes it is too much work this I know.

But the pleasure of my hands in the dirt,

it is more than enough of an extra perk.

And then when the blooms do show their beautiful face.

I know that the garden is my very special place.

So I go out again at this early hour.

Hoping to see all the new plants start to flower.

Wishing that the weeds did not again appear,

that is always my biggest fear!!

And sure enough just as I thought,

they snuck up again, oh please tell me not!
