A Place To Be

There is a place I found

A place where nature is all around

The sky is filled with birds to sing to me

A more wonderful song there not be

The flowers and the trees all play their part

They fill my senses and my heart

But most of all it is the view

Of our majestic mountain

which stands tall and protects the valley too

Almost everywhere  you go Mt Si is seen

Once you see it you will know what I mean

It fills your heart with a sense of wonder.

It lifts you up when you ae down under.

A more beautiful view there not be.

for Mt Si is the one for me.

Again I am reminded on how unexpected life is and the only for sure is that it will end.  In the last few years I have lost three very important people in my life.   They are at peace now so I am happy for them.    I realize more than ever how important it is to remember all the good things, learn from the bad and more on.  Live while you can.  That world has so much beauty and good in it if we look for it instead of looking at the bad always.  We already know we can find that.  It is wasted time we can never get back.  Being bitter and angry produces illness.  It robs us of precious time.  Being nice to people does not take money or good looks or higher education, not that it is bad to have any of those but it is not mandatory.  You get the same sense of satisfaction from a smile or a pleasant word back either way and  if you don’t you gave food for thought to a unhappy person.  Some times all someone needs is a smile to change their whole day from bad to good.  A kind word goes many many miles.

We will be healthier and happier through kindness.  The world needs this.  This is what will help bring peace.

Life’s many roads and side streets!

I started this post about 4 times now and all going in different ways.  I was even thinking of giving up the blog all together since this last year my attendance to it has been so bad.  I have never been a daily blogger but so much has distracted me this last year and a half that all my writing has suffered.  Practice makes perfect but you have to do it to reach that.  And I am not a quitter so as I typed almost a whole page on it I realized I could not do that.

Then I started a page but it was a rant and I didn’t get too far when I realized that I didn’t want a negative post especially since I hadn’t been on for a while.    I always try to have positive posts unless it is something I feel is important enough to rant about.  As I deleted this page to start over I was lost in my head.  Where are my poems?  Where are my stories??   Why am I at that writer’s wall again or I should say still??

So, I started this yesterday, let’s see how far we get???? Lol!!!

I find that life has many roads and side streets to travel.  Some lead to nowhere, some lead to danger, some lead to wonderful things for us to see and experience.  It is our choice how we choose to react and learn from each turn we take.  And that is what many of the turn offs and side streets are for.  Learning!  It may be something we need to learn about ourselves or others but it is put there for that.  If we choose not to learn from it then it is our choice if the outcome isn’t what we wanted, we did choose it.  It takes some of us longer to remember that, and learn these lessons but bottom line is we make the choice.  Of course, there are circumstances that come that people cannot control such as illness, death, and other issues, but it is still our choice how we handle it.  I think this last year and a half this has been one of my lessons along with patience and letting go.  I think these are hard lessons but I see now I do have control to learn and grow from these lessons.   As I change the way I look at them I see the difference on how I handle them.  And  WORK is involved.   Work is a main tool in life.  If you don’t put in the work you won’t get very far.  I have always had good work ethics but I keep forgetting to apply it to all aspects in my life especially in myself on this journey of life and its many roads and side streets.  So I am rolling up my sleeves to dig in and do the work.

Now I came back to finish this morning and still not sure if this is what I wanted to write about when I got this in my mail I figured the timing was right:

“We can always choose to perceive things differently. You can focus on what’s wrong in your life, or you can focus on what’s right.”

– Marianne Williamson

I also want to thank all my followers who stick with me.  I really appreciate your support and patience.

To the bloggers out there who put out so many good posts and every day!  That is impressive!

I am sharing this wonderful poem from friend.   He posts from what he calls his “front Porch”.    This hit me because I am going to my 50th class reunion this summer.  This poem took me back to that time when Viet Nam was going.  All of us from that era have  been touched by that war.  Either with someone who  died or some who came home so damaged. It was tragic.  My first published poem was in 68 about Viet Nam called “The Gun” it is on this blog somewhere in the back.  But Daron’s is more about the people mine was about the gun.  With all that is going on right now this sadly could be a real thing again.  WE DO NOT WANT WAR!!!   Daron’s poem shows how it touches everyone. He especially felt it.  Thank You Daron for reminding me of friends past and present who still live the trauma.  And Thank You for bringing this awareness to us all!!

(Dedicated to my Brother, Eric Schwartz, 1st Marines, Vietnam veteran)

Man was at war before he invented the wheel..

He’s fought with everything from stone to steel.

All through time he’s fought for space.

Wars to preserve his very race.

What troubles me is the standing truth

That the young must die so the old may rule,

That the debt is the lives of daughters and sons

Who must go to ground while still so young.

But war, I’m sure, does not seem so wise

When seen through a troubled mother’s eyes.

Is victory worth a victory won

When a father receives a medal in trade for his son?

War is nothing but a monstrous sin

When you see flames dripping from a child’s skin.

War today will never justify

Hope extinguished in the blink of an eye.

Our children die in a sea of green

For greed the worst that I’ve ever seen.

Humanity dies evermore each day

For we the people to our leaders lack the courage to say

Writers Block and Then Some!

Yes I have writer’s block again, lol.

Good Morning! I am sorry to say I have not been able to work on my blog for awhile. Now I am not an everyday blogger anyway but I have not been around for awhile now. So much has happened, a lot good and some very sad. I have lost three wonderful people in my life within a year and two just in the last few months. This has reminded me that we should never take our friends, families or our love ones for granted. We are born and we all die but some are gone too soon. This is not about the loss and the sadness because these 3 were positive, happy, life loving people who lived life to the fullest. They are gone too soon but they went with a positive, gracious peace. All taught me lessons even in their death. It was a gift to have them in my life and I know they are all in a good place now.

From this I have learned and I will work on taking each day as it comes and make the best of it. I will work at leaving all the negativity behind and letting it go. I will appreciate all I have and receive. And I know that whatever happens in life, it is an opportunity to learn, grow and improve myself.

And now about this blog: I hope to get it back and running soon. A few more things have come up and it is has been a challenge but all is good. I am working on this. I most likely won’t become an everyday blogger because truthfully I couldn’t keep up with that and trying to read all the other good blogs out there. And to all my followers, I am so flattered you follow me. It keeps me looking for my best to put out there. I try to read as many as I can. Please know I learn from all of you and even if I don’t comment I am so impressed with the quality out there.

I will work on putting out the best I can. My wonderful Aunt whom I adored told me right before she passed on to keep putting out my best work. She encouraged me always. So I will commit to that. So I will be trying hard to clear my mind from all that has been blocking it and start putting out the best I can.

Thank you to all the good bloggers out there. And Thank you all so much that follow me. I am grateful and appreciate you all very much.

Have a great week!

MAY 2ND, 2014

This is a simple poem I wrote a few years back.  It seems to keep popping up around this time every year so I changed the date and am reposting it again!   I am very lucky to have my best friend and one true love.  And he is lucky to have me too, lol!  Lol!   Together we have made a wonderful family filled with love and lots and lots of laughter!

45 years later. What can I say?
I would do it all over Again today.

I wasn’t sure then. But you told me it was so
I didn’t trust I just wanted to go.

You won me with persistence and an act,
You were a pleasant surprise that is a fact.

And while not always perfect, mistakes we both did make.
Our minds made up, and our feelings not fake.

We stood our stand, together hand in hand.
With laughter and tears we faced our fears.

And today here we are together,
the tie still is as strong as ever.

Now retired facing our Golden time.
With our love that does bind.

Standing together to face old age,
Living proof that love is the wisest sage.

I am really sad to see April go. It has been so much fun and so many wonderful poems out here to read. I hope people continue to keep posting poetry. It is a wonderful art form and therapy.  For this last day I post this poem.

I wrote this poem after learning how real love stands by you in sickness and in health. I knew the through rich or poor, and other struggles it did but until you deal with illness you don’t know. Well I am so blessed that real love does still live and thrive through it all.

On Friday May 2nd is our 45th wedding anniversary!   Twenty-five years ago, April 29th,  he  surprised me and proposed to me again and planned a wedding and we renewed our vows with our sons as our witnesses.   He always is full of surprieses!  He has had to deal with a lot due to my health issues.  He has been wonderful and always there and he taught me to laugh.   And that inspired this little ditty!   He is my love, my heart and soul, he is my best friend and he feels the same and shows me so.

Love is when you are ill,

and your love is with you still.

It goes beyond the passion of sex.

It keeps you excited for what comes next.

And as you grow old and grey,

you love each other anyway.

It is the passion of the friends you are.

It is always knowing your love won’t be far.

Love is sharing tears and laughter,

Real love IS happily ever after.

GOOD MORNING!   This is a revised version of a poem I posted last summer.  I am hoping for warmer weather soon as you can see!  Have a great day!

Waking up knowing the day will be filled with water and sun.

Swimming in the ocean, friends laughing, what could be more fun?

Splashing and chasing, giggles and shouts of joy,

it didn’t matter if you were a girl or a boy.

Through the eyes of your children seeing it again,

a reminder of yourself way back when.

And when it comes time for bed as you remembered,

they also fought it all the way as they lay down their weary head.

Their little eye lids so heavy they are asleep before goodnight is said.

And if you are very lucky and life goes as it should,

you will experience the feeling again with your grand kids which is very very good.

For those are memories that keep your heart happy and young,

and isn’t that what we want when all is said and done.

Good Morning to all! I am so enjoying all the poetry being shared this month. It is so amazing to me to see that there is still so many that love poetry. Poetry is a great tool to express feelings to yourself, friends, family and even strangers. And by reading all this fantastic poems, I see how so many use it for that.  Thank you all for sharing with us!

I normally don’t talk about this on my blog but I wanted to share this poem because I know a few people who are going through some really hard health issues right now and Poetry is such an excellent way to express one’s thoughts and feelings.

I have some health issues that I have dealt with for years.   But in 2002 I got sucker punched with a surprising one for me.  I had to have brain surgery and then another one in 2006. I know so many people know how health issues can scare you and change you.   I don’t want this to be about that but it helps explain this poem.   I can say I don’t think I had ever been that scared.   Poetry is such an excellent way to express one’s thoughts and feelings.   Everyone handles things different and has different beliefs.  This is the way I handled it.    I wrote this poem to God.   He read it and answered my prayer.

The Answered Prayer

The shock of it has brought me to my knees.

And I ask you God please,

help me through this.

I don’t want it to be my time.

I love You and want to be with You one day.

But I still have my sons & grandchildren I want to watch play.

I want to see them grow and of  YOU and Your wonder  for them to know.

I want to see Your beauty and Your wonderful gifts.

I ask please for more time with my best friend,

You joined us long ago and I love him so.

To feel Your air and see Your flowers,

to climb Your hills and know Your power.

I will follow Your will as you wish,

and do it gladly and thank You so.

But I will miss all the gifts I have gotten to know.

You have given me so much here,

and it is in sadness and a bit of fear,

I ask You God help me be true,

to face this thing that I must do.

Whatever You do decide,

may I be strong and in Your will abide

My poems were so different when I was young.  I started so many years ago and hid them all in a box.  I got rid of most of them.  In 1967 I had a great English teacher that believed in me.  She helped me get my first poem published.  It was published in a school magazine and also a book that you entered a contest to get in.  It actually has been republished several times.     I thought I would post it today and you can see there is a bit of a change in my thoughts, lol .  I would hope so since I will be 65 this year and if there is not change in our thoughts in all that time something is wrong!   Now 1967 for some might be too young to understand all that was going on at that time.  Some will remember too well.  I hope you enjoy!

Received at the tender age of two,

It is fake

Again at the age of eight, a new model but still not real

Now he’s taught that the gun is to kill

At fifteen a still newer model

But this time to hunt

At seventeen a better one yet

But this time it’s really out to get.

Not the deer, the rabbit, or a tin can

This target is a human man.

Shipped over to a far away place

Start shooting at every different face.

Died at the age nineteen with the gun that started his death at two.

This child could be any one of you.
